Have you ever wanted to be like Steve Jobs of Apple or Bill
Gate of Microsoft; all you need is just few steps away. Information technology
has become more than a profession but more like a way of life, going extra mile
than the day-to-day usage of ICT gadgets and software can actually put some extra
cash in your pocket and even crave a space for you among the icons in technology.
Here five steps that will get you to that place;
Choose your area of
interest: As you look around you, you will agree with me that almost
everything is about technology, from the processed food you eat, to the clothes
you wear, the gadgets you use, etc. it will actually do you good to take your
time, sit and think of the aspect of technology you will want to venture into,
either programming, web development, mobile apps, graphics networking,
hardware, database or database. If you are that kind person that wants to be
jack of all trade, you can actually take them one after the other, doing this
will give you more opportunity to become focused and determined.
Get required tools
and tutorials: I don’t think have ever seen a fisherman going to the river
without his fishing net or hook except if he’s going for other business at the
river. Getting yourself the required tool is one of the major aspect of
technology and the number one tool is working personal computer (PC) with the
right configuration for the area of interest. You will also need to gather
materials(tutorials) for the journey at hand, there are lots of tutorials on
the internet, be it videos or eBooks and let Google be your friend at the moment;
gather as much as you can.
Learn from
professionals and be updated: It is always good to see someone ahead of you
whenever you are going through tough times, it gives encouragement and hope,
knowing fully that you will get there one day. Choose professionals from that
area of expertise, learn from them, watch their video tutorials, and ask
questions. You can even go further in paying these people to get materials from
them or get trained by them; nothing good comes free, you know! Another
important step here is getting updated day by day either by joining good ICT
forums or visiting websites to get news on ICT.
Practice and test
your knowledge: The main purpose of acquiring knowledge is for its usage
when needed, after watching and reading through your materials, you will need a
lot of practice to become that actual person you dream to be, You can join
competitions, help a friend, get exercises online, practice again, study and
practice more.
Acquire Experience: Experience
is more like the bedrock of ICT because you will never be sure you can do it
until you have done it (over and over again). Get a job, at this stage, you
don’t have to be money conscious, acquire experience and gather your portfolio,
keep record of every job you do and be professional in dealings. As you are
acquiring experience, you will be exposed to your weakness, try to work on
them.
Conclusively: Get
certified! There are international certificates for every area of interest in
ICT. Remember! Your certificate or your reputation may get a job but knowledge
will keep you there. So take this five steps, become proficient in your field
and aim for your certificates.
